Description
Welcome to “Les Hauts de Montagu”, a guest lodge offering 600 hectares of abundant, indigenous flora and situated on the beautiful slopes of the Langeberg Mountains. Here you will experience beauty, tranquillity and comfort; perfect for nature lovers, relaxing getaways or a romantic weekend.
Just two hours out from Cape Town, Les Hauts de Montagu is situated on the scenic Route 62 between Montagu and Barrydale, 3km from the village of Montagu in the Western Cape.
Past & Present
In 1865, Boontjiesrivier (as the farm was originally known) was the home of a French Huguenot, Hermanus François le Roux.
At the time of the Great Kimberly Diamond Rush, the farm supplied their produce via Voortrekker wagon to the mass of hopeful prospectors in Kimberly. Some of the 11 le Roux children were born on these round trips, which took could take up to 4 months.
Today, olive trees and aromatic lavender bushes have replaced the burnt vineyard and apricot trees. The original barn has been renovated and now boasts the new Lodge Restaurant which offers peaceful views over the olive orchards while guests breakfast and dine.
Above the restaurant a chapel has been built. This provides a beautiful and unique location for weddings or for those wanting a quiet space to reflect.
On the original site of the le Roux’s house, 3 cottages have been erected, housing six luxury on-suite guest rooms.
